I used to throw apple cores away like that when walking in Derbyshire. Like the man said, it's biodegradable.

Exactly and not even an invasive species either. I can only assume that they treat it all as non biodegradable to avoid confusion.

My thought was they probably don't want trees growing on the grass verges of motorways & dual carriageways. One more thing for people to crash into. Jon

Are seeds from apples viable? I'm not too sure that they are given that all apples are a heady mix of cuttings from hybrids grafted on to root stock from a different species.
