The BBC may re-consider naming part of its London headquarters after the late John Peel, following allegations he had an affair with a 15-year-old.

There's a bit of a difference between a fairly young man having an affair with a girl who's almost old enough, and the other story.

Of course it also helps that I was always a fan of JP where as the other guy always creeped me out...

So you'd put the Megan Stammers case in the same box as JP, rather than in the Savile box?

The age difference in the Megan Stammers case is a decade less than the difference between me and Best Beloved. They were obviously both complicit in the escape to France, they were obviously happy in each other's company, it's just Megan isn't at the legal age of consent by about a year. For this reason I am less concerned about something slightly odd John Peel did with a willing partner, while Savile appears to be have been a preying on the vulnerable and those least able to fight back.

I'm finding it very difficult to keep having to reevaluate my experience of life and history through the lens of modern morality. I'm not even certain modern morality is anything to write home about. "The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there."

I do think that in the Megan Stammers case he could be considered as grooming her. It reminds me of the sketches on Little Britain where David Walliams is the school teacher who marries his former pupil.
