An NHS dentists says she was told to get rid of old magazines from her waiting room because they posed an infection risk.

Monica Symes, a dentist in Lyme Regis, Dorset, says an NHS infection control worker warned her that keeping back issues of Country Life could make her fail health and safety inspections.

The NHS regulator denies such a rule.

I was in my dentist and read about that ship sinking. So terrible, I think it was called the Lusitania.

TBH where are you gonna get the mags from? Either people donate them, or the dentists has to pay for them. Now who in their right mind is doing to pay a subscription or spend any kind of money on magazines for patients?

I was in a waiting room earlier today and this happened to cross my mind. I chose to read recent articles on my phone rather than touch the grubby looking magazines. It's bad enough that many of the people who sneezed on mw were possibly contagious...

You have around 2lbs worth of microbes on your skin. Why are you worried about everyone elses?

I remember a copy of 2000AD in my dentist's waiting room when I was a child. The first pert of The Visible Man where he says "hell's bells!". My mum was horrified. The image has stuck in my mind ever since.

There should be more comics in waiting rooms and fewer celebrity pap magazines.

I was about to agree until I realised that comics from the big publishers really aren't suitable for kids
