Quote:
Council bosses fear that clingy and revealing clothes worn by some of its female employees risk presenting a negative image of the Berkshire town.
They have introduced a new “smarten up” dress code, banning flip flops and strapless tops. The borough council said it had been “finding it difficult to encourage some staff to dress appropriately”.
It comes 75 years after Betjeman infamously wrote: “Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough! It isn’t fit for humans now”
Since then it has struggled to shake off its association in the popular imagination with ugly, industrial architecture.
Its image was hardly helped by the setting of comedy series The Office, with its excruciating depiction of torpid suburban life, in the town, with a title sequence featuring some of its less delightful urban scenery.

Just demolish the town and start again.
The malaise that is Slough needs assertive action.

I've have thought most businesses and councils etc already had dress codes. Why is this new to them?

In my experience whilst men have to wear a shirt and tie women can get away with a lot more in their dress (technically a lot less  )

My local council seems to have a casual dress code but nothing outrageous.

I think if we're going for equality, women should wear blouse/pant-suits to match men wearing tie/suits.

A lot of back-office roles have casual dress codes.

Slough could start by changing its name to something more palatable.
