I wonder which definition of "celebrity" they used when they picked her. I can't find it in my dictionary.

+1 From what I hear she seems like a fame seeker so this is perfect for her. Still do not care enough to watch. I feel sorry for all the wildlife having to put up with all those needy celebrities.

Well, she'll either get voted off at the first opportunity (because of what she represents) or the public will vote for her to do the trials every day (again, because of what she represents!). How often do you get a chance to challenge a politician to eat all kinds of assorted nasties?!!

Apparently, Dorries will continue to claim her £5k/month MP salary and claim expenses. I also understand her local Conservative Association is having an emergency meeting today, because she didn't consult with them before announcing she was off to Oz on this jaunt.

You couldn't make this stuff up.

Well she should sacrifice her pay when she will clearly be unavailable for her job. If she were a minister it might actually reduce the damage that she can do.

1. She's not a celebrity. Not even Z-class.
2. She should be fired for taking this action without consulting someone.
3. She should not be paid anything for the duration of her absence from work.

I suspect that she will end up doing all the trials and being made to suffer.

That's if people can be bothered to spend the money to vote for her

Or afford to.

The people on that show haven't been actual celebrities for years.

Nobody can 'fire' an MP. That would be fundamentally undemocratic, because the constituents in her seat have selected her as their MP, and nobody else has the right to change their decision. The only way she can stop being an MP mid-term is if she quits (technically, joins the Chiltern hundreds because you're actually not allowed to 'resign' as an MP for the same reason). There was going to be a system of 'recall' where if a high enough percentage of constituents asked for it a bi-election could be forced. That was in the tory manifesto I think. So the chances of it getting anywhere near law are virtually nil.

Her constituency tory party could deselect her which would mean she couldn't stand as a tory candidate at the next election in the constituency. Apparently however due to boundary changes her constituency is disappearing at the next election anyway, so she's got nothing to lose.

This is one of the fundamental issues with our system of government. Once an MP gets elected, there's pretty much nothing you can do to stop them misbehaving until the next election. The ones who are career politicians of course care what people think of them to a degree but Nadine obviously doesn't plan on staying in politics anyway.

Now this is an interesting one. She certainly wouldn't be able to provide evidence of requirement for expenses. The Committee for Standards in Public LIfe will certainly be looking at her submissions for the next few months.

She's been suspended, possibly depending on how well she does ;)

With any luck she'll do the British public a favour and not return to darken these shores.
