Mighty impressive but is it secure? I always seem to misplace my card reader whenever I need it yet it's always in the way when I don't. Something like this would be useful.

While considerably more secure than typical static username and password log-in systems, many people find using security tokens cumbersome given the need to keep it with them in order to use online banking.

But that is the benefit. If someone nicks the card they do necessarily get the dongle at the same time. If someone does steal the card they will also get the rolling pin generator. If my cards are stolen now they do not necessarily get the pin generator. Now all this will do is allow the thieves to make purchases which are hard for the owner to disprove because they had the rolling number generator as well.

The token generator requires knowledge of the users pin for the token generator before it would work.

Most banks use the same pin reader. I can use my Barclay reader with my Coop account, for example. The reader has no knowledge of the user or account, so losing it is unimportant. It's knowledge of the pin that matters.

I cannot use a PIN. I still have chip and signature cards.

Hmm, do the people who dream up these things ever consider the day-to-day practicalities of carrying around such a device?

I tend to sit on my wallet when it's in the back pocket of my trousers, existing cards are pretty resilient and can stand a bit of bending and flexing. It wouldn't work for long if it was kept in my wallet, LCD screen would get cracked in a matter of days if you carry it around with you where you normally put your credit cards.
