http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20284124 I didn't see the broadcast, but the press didn't have the balls to criticise it. Now watch them... |

Yes, but he's spent most of it doing an impression of Norma Wisdom in a rake showroom after an earthquake. |

There seems to be a sort of tit for tat thing going on between public funded broadcasting and commercial broadcasting that I don't much like right now. By that I mean, the commercial side took a pounding and now the bbc is. From my point of view, the bbc is dealing with stuff that happened many years ago and the fallout of people long gone. Commercial news interests are dealing with stuff that people who are still around to be accountable we're responsible for. It's gone awfully quiet on phone hacking recently hasn't it? |

Smoke and mirrors? Are they trying to distract us while the government does something naughty? |

I feel for Entwistle. Manoeuvred into a corner and the door opened by that prick Patten. We are all zombies and the path is preordained. It is a shame he didn't have the political savvy to deal with it. But then he wouldn't have taken the job in the first place, as the pitfalls were all there. smoke and mirrors? more likely distracting us while they do nothing at all... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media ... 03793.html |

Releasing bad job figures or inflation figures? I do feel sorry for the man. Hardly had the time to make any changes in the BBC. Most of these were from before he even took the post. |

My concern is that the BBC as a whole will be pilloried and further hobbled for the faulty journalism of a few people working on one programme. To me, it's a failing of he Newsnight investigative team and the editorial staff responsible for that programme's output. Something is wrong there, and that needs to be addressed. |

Entwhistle was doomed from the start. He was handed a poisoned chalice. |

To be fair, Leveson has concluded his enquiries and is in the middle of writing his final report. There's much new to say until the report comes out. Then it will get interesting, because while the press don't want whatever Leveson recommends to happen, the public very much do. And you can be sure the opposition will jump on any sign of them giving in to the press barons, hypocritical though that may be. Jon |

I agree. The problems are at Newsnight not necessarily everywhere within the BBC. |

While I understand that Newsnight have serious questions to ask themselves about their conduct and procedures, surely the police have to shoulder some of the blame by misidentifying Lord McAlpine's photo in the first place. I've heard very little on that side of it, other than the photo was wrongly said to be McAlpine. Oh well, that's alright then... * shrugs * |

Yes and they are now discrediting the victim because for all intents and purposes that was whom he thought had assaulted him. The Newsnight team failed basic fact checking like a photo verification that the man claimed to be the peer could be corroborated by a photo identification. If they had done that they would have avoided all these troubles. |
