And how successful has that been in Europe? ;) I can understand why customers do it. Though why can't Nintendo come up with a solution that allows customers to put multiple legal games on one cartridge even with DRM? It makes much more sense that carrying dozens of cartridges.

The honest truth is that Ninty game releases are generally crap yet hold their sale value for ages comparatively... somehow. Same with the PSP/Vita.

Few people are willing to pay those prices any more with home system game prices dropping like a stone and mobile phone games. I know people who only bought DSs because of the R4-type cards and eBay for cheap games; even the 'big' releases were often divisive.

Yes iOS games are very cheap and so cheap that if you hate it it is only a few quid down the drain. When you have games with the quality of Infinity Blade or Sky Gamblers for less than £7 on iOS you are a fool not to try them. NIntendo needs to adjust to the new reality.

I almost think dedicated handheld games consoles have had it. The Vita is too expensive and I have zero interest - if I want to play a serious game I'll switch on the PS3. The DS is more enticing, but I know I'd only play Mario and nothing else, so that seems superfluous.

The quality of games on iOS and Android (and to a lesser extent, Windows Phone) are such that they meet all my gaming needs when I'm out of the house.

Yes the initial price was high, too high for many. Even ignoring the piracy aspect the costs could be large and taking a number of cartridges for games away can also be difficult so I can see why kids liked the R4 to take multiple games on one cartridge rather than a dozen cartridges.

Same here. Put them on a iPod touch and you can watch videos, play music as well, so much better value for kids. As people get older and get smart phones they can do all the above and make calls all on one device.
