Why not? Won a gold medal, won a major, spent the year being less of a sulky git and more of a nice bloke. Chilled out a bit. Fair does to him.

I suspect she might have been on any long list there was but they do reward success to a degree and, to put it bluntly, she blew it at London 2012. DQ and Silver in her two primary events is not what her target was going in. I'd probably see here in there instead of Nicola Adams TBH but it's a close call.

Because 'chillin' out a bit' is not what it's about?

I know, I just think she's hot. (8+D

As much as I like Mo Farah, it's got to be Wiggins FTW hasn't it? The first British Tour De France winner in decades, followed by Olympic gold. I'd have though it would be a sure bet.

To be honest, its never been entirely clear what it is about. Some of the previous winners haven't had much of a personality that's for sure.

I wouldn't disagree, she's lovely. But that almost certainly isn't what it's about :D. I don't think there'd be any shortage of nominations if it was a criteria mind..

Much as I'd love it to be Ben ainslie, I can't see how it would be anyone other than wiggo.

He's probably favourite, with Ainslie being a bit of an interesting outside bet.

I actually think if you're thinking along the lines of personalty (i.e. being a likeable, admirable person) and achievement in 2012, it's either Wiggins or Simmonds. I have a feeling though that Ennis or Farah will get it simply because athletics is about the highest profile it has ever been right now. The thing is pretty much every Olympian I follow on twitter, even some of the other nominees, seems to have come out and said Katherine Grainger deserves to win it. I'd happily put a few quid on her getting a podium finish, although I don't think she'll win.

I think these 3
Bradley Wiggins
Jessica Ennis
Mo Farah

Sadly I don't think Ellie will make it. She would win it if my vote counted.
Ellie Simmonds
