All sensible provided it's maintained, but it still won't tackle the thornier issues of how close the politicians and police are to the media, or the willingness of the public to think 'Oh, it's only celebs', which is part of why it's been 'untouchable'.

Cameron does not want to implement it because he is afraid of the press turning against him at the next election.

I'm not sure we want to stifle the press anyway. The law is already clear and it's equally clear that phone hacking etc is illegal. What we need are tougher enforcement of, and longer sentences for breaking them.

I agree, but if the police are more interested in taking payoffs then what hope is there?
