The letter, in the Daily Telegraph, says a law change would "severely restrict" Catholics' ability to "teach the truth about marriage in schools".

No wonder marriage rates are down

What truth. That the church decided that only they could do marriages and what they believed became the law.
If two people wish to commit to each other what the hell has it ro do with them.

You could equally ask if two people wish to commit to each other what the hell does it matter what it's called?

+1. The easiest thing would be to call all "marriages" something else eg civil partnership (irrespective of caste, creed, gender, race, sexuality etc) and ensure it is legally recognised.

Leave the term "marriage" to churches and legally unrecognised. Eventually (and it will take time) the term "marriage" will fall by the wayside.

How many kids these days are baptised? Same thing will happen with marriage.

Don't know the figures, but baptising is surprisingly trendy over here amongst chavs with no interest otherwise. And across the religous divide too.

I think that the real reason that the Catholic priests are upset is that they might be forced to come clean about their boyfriends.
