I fully expect the Sony price to be laughable, but then look at MS with Surface

The price point seems acceptable but selling at a bigger loss to start with might be the only way to shift them to the masses. I wonder how many will stick with their existing consoles if they plan on excluding second hand games.

Quote:
"Moreover, a PC-based architecture (Intel chips in the case of Xbox) should have a number of advantages over custom-developed silicon: for one, the learning curve for software developers will be shorter than completely new technology.

"Second, the cost of production and retail price points should be lower than prior console launches.

"Third, it will be easier to build online services around PC chip architecture, including flexible business models (free-to-play, subscriptions) and multi-media (over the top) content offerings. For Microsoft, this design will also allow for more integration with Windows 8 and Windows Mobile devices."

It will also make it easier to hack.

I'm mighty curious to see how they'll handle the next-gen, I can't imagine I'll give a stuff about the gfx...

In all honesty, I have considered either not buying any next gen console, or switching to Xbox. I've just about had it with Sony's FAIL armada. The only issue is that people still have connection issues with playing COD online despite paying for XBL. That and none of my PS3 hardware could be re-used.

It makes a nice catch-up TV box, and you could load it with films :)

A bit expensive for that and a blue ray player.

I'm assuming he's talking about his PS3.

These days it's not so dear in that sense, plus built-in slightly rubbish browser, continual updates to the player, 3D-capable, lots of output and input options, plays a lot of formats :)

Is the PS3 3D capable?

Yeah, but it's mostly for the films, there's about five games that could use it effectively, probably.

I was wondering about getting a PS3 at some point but the 3D capability is a plus. Though I need to see if there are actually any games that would appeal to me before I buy.

I bought a PS3 last year when my DVD player died as I wanted something that could play Blu-Ray, stream movies off my PC to the big telly and play the odd game.

In that respect it has (and is) doing well

I have a blu ray player and an Apple TV so can stream stuff that way. No 3D stuff yet, but also no TV capable of 3D either so it is not really an issue right now. The only reason for considering it was for games but I cannot see any that I might be interested in.
