This technology has been used in Africa for a number of years already.

O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone have introduced NFC payments here...

NFC has been in use here for several years. It's not much good for paying for mail-order items though!

I shan't be opting in myself. At least, not unless I have to in order to make serious savings. I know it says you need a pin code "or similar", but phone numbers are easy to spoof.
