http://www.computerandvideogames.com/38 ... deo-games/ Can't help thinking that he'll be looking for at least a fudge for that $10m. And I hope he's going to include TV, books, music, films etc ![]() Why don't you spend the money on a young peoples' mental health campaign aimed at parents, eh? Not that it's just younger people, but if you must cloud the issue before you've even started... |

Unfortunately, this is his realpolitik. If he wants to stand any chance at all of getting any sort of gun ownership regulations through, he's got to throw the pro-gun lobby a bone. This is that bone. In fact he's done quite well because he hasn't actually promised them anything concrete. He's promised to throw a tiny amount of money (relative to the US federal budget) at research into it without having to guarantee any particular result. It could well backfire on the NRA (oh the irony) if the research shows the link isn't there, or is tenuous or complex. I suspect he's had to give the political conservatives something else that we haven't heard about yet. That may turn out to be something more valuable. But if it keeps nutters with assault rifles out of schools, maybe whatever it is is a price worth paying. |

I saw a post on Twitter last night. The lot complaining about the suggested background checks are the same people demanding birth certificates and other forms of proof of existence from Obama. ![]() I note that the NRA is going on about Obama having armed guards and why can’t the rest of America have them too? |

Yes but the majority of Americans do not have NRA members trying to shoot them. |

The average person does not get multiple death threats every year, unless you are really annoying. The US president probably gets more simply because of who he is rather than as any US individual. |

Then when he leaves office he will be under secret service protection for life. Maybe at a reduced level but there will still be crazies who will try something stupid. At least in the US the president can only stand for two terms as president before standing down. |
