First of all how many kids who would be watching that program would have any idea of who Jimmy Savile actually was? Probably none as he was dead, and not in the media for some time. Another storm in a teacup. This was filmed more than a decade ago before we had any idea of what Savile had been doing. I think that they did not protect him in the way you think. They may or may not have heard rumours but I doubt that they actively covered up like the Catholic church. The episode in question was originally made in 2001, apparently. Yes, someone should have checked the content properly before this was repeated again, but I expect this was just an oversight by some junior assistant in the editorial department. Don't see what the fuss is about really.
