First of all how many kids who would be watching that program would have any idea of who Jimmy Savile actually was? Probably none as he was dead, and not in the media for some time. Another storm in a teacup. This was filmed more than a decade ago before we had any idea of what Savile had been doing. It is more coincidental that he looks like Savile uses his catchphrases but is called Max.

I can't decide if people are that easily offended these days, or if the thought of bad publicity turns organisations into over-cautious, apologetic wrecks.

Storm, meet teacup. Seriously, people are getting upset about puppets doing impressions of Jimmy Saville now?

I think that they did not protect him in the way you think. They may or may not have heard rumours but I doubt that they actively covered up like the Catholic church. What I suspect is that there were insufficient clues to do much about it.

The episode in question was originally made in 2001, apparently. Yes, someone should have checked the content properly before this was repeated again, but I expect this was just an oversight by some junior assistant in the editorial department. Don't see what the fuss is about really.

I don't think there really is much fuss. It was just funny in a face-palm way more than anything.

Actually why should they check a children's program again? Hardly an oversight either.

Would any child in the age range that would watch that programme even know who JS was.
Or is it just being highlighted by someone who wants to bash the BBC and is being offended on behalf of a group that dont care.

No and that is why this anger is meaningless.

There are plenty of BBC bashers. I suspect that this is the real reason for the comments.
