It does not help when we support dodgy regimes to start with because we are trying to give our oil companies a head start with getting exploration deals. Much of the problems are down to poverty and large numbers of youngsters with no opportunities and help. One thing that we have in our favour is a benefit system, but that is not guaranteed so it could happen in Europe. Saudi Arabia keeps its potentially rebellious population happy with very generous benefits, but as other oil exporting countries oil supplies run out that will become less of an option. |

the war in the middle east is about to end so lets start another war in africa we've got to put our under funded/equipped/manned armed forces to some use or they will become skivers instead of strivers FFS will Govt. just give it a rest and sort out some of the 'real' problems we are facing ... |

Since 60% of the so called skivers are in reality low paid strivers the government probably regard the military as skivers unless they are invading someone. I agree that there are more pressing problems to fix and nothing is being done to fix our banks which still have the power to bankrupt us as a nation. |

Spain only has a two year limit for unemployment. At least here we have benefits system that acts as a safety net. Though with the government slashing it by 30% the next step might be to cap it in terms of lifetime benefit and then when that kicks in the riots will begin. You also forget that most of the UK are a paycheque from poverty. |

I am not suggesting that what happened in Algeria will happen here. Algeria also has a serious unemployment problem, and that is a factor in why groups like Al Quada get any traction there. That is unlikely here, with it not being an islamic nation, and with radicals being watched. The fact that there is high unemployment means that anger against the state is increasing and I do think that there may be an increase in civil unrest through out Europe over time. Unemployed people will have nothing to lose if they riot. This could take many years to ferment here. It all depends on whether the government actually improve the lives of many rather than just a few. In fact living standards for most are still deteriorating all across Europe and I do not see any prospect for improvement right now. We will see civil unrest all across Europe eventually unless the life improves for many, and that is not going to happen for a long time yet. Remember in 2001 the petrol blockade caused chaos for many, no one was killed but it demonstrated the vulnerability to a few key areas. |

So you've gone with option 2 there. |
