'Sexting' isn't her invention, I believe it was listed as one of the words recently added to the OED in their traditional yearly publicity move. 'Pornified' though, not heard that one before. And as far as I can tell it means pretty much the same as 'sexualised', which is a perfectly good word we've had for ages. The issue she's highlighting isn't new either. Mind you, perish the thought of Diane Abbott saying something controversial for self-publicity's sake. |

In all honesty, I do agree that we are becoming more overtly sexualised. Glamour models and WAGS left right and centre; scantily clad women - popstars, models, "celebrities" etc plastered everywhere. The ease of access of pornography - in the olden days, you had to either look old enough to buy a mag, or get hold of one from somewhere. Now you just look in your spam folder or look at popups. You then see this being filtered down with younger kids having sex, more people trying different practices (eg anal - something that was rarely done but I now see girls in their early twenties with tears and fissures as a result of it) etc. We also need to acknowledge the damage of pornography on children - I once saw a mother who was depressed. It turns out her six year old daughter was being sexually abused by her seven year old cousin. How did he know what to do? Turns out (IIRC) he had accessed his dad's videos. This demonstrates two things: adults need to be careful with their own material, and porn can have a negative impact on a young child. |

People should lock their porn away. Though the press are just as bad. Look at Teen magazines, or the women's pages of the Daily Fail. |

I wish I could find the reference from the other day, but I expect all the Google terms I can think of will not end well. There was a fuss kicked up the other day because of the TV show (I believe it's an American drama) that has one of the actresses appearing nude. The issue wasn't about that she was naked, but rather that she was not someone who fell into "porn star chic" (on in Viz parlance: STA). In other words, a normal, slightly better upholstered lady. It seems that the complaints are shifting away from the amount of nudity on screen to the perceived quality of the nudity. |
