I will believe it when I see it. Highly unlikely though. Apple still make most of the profits from phones and with their small share of the handset market why do they need to change much. I suspect that it will be a minimal hardware change but more will be done with the software to differentiate it from the Android clones.

History would suggest we at least get the 5s before we get a redesign.

I suspect they would just jump to the 6. In any case, I would have to have a look st the phone first. My 4S is bulky enough with a griffin defender case. I really wouldn't want it much bigger.

First they said Apple would never make a tablet.
Then they said Apple would never make an iPad mini.
Now they're saying no to making an iPhone "maxi" ?

I suspect that we will eventually see more than one iPhone; a phone for everyone rather than one phone for all. A big one for fat cats with with fat fingers, and a little one for everyone else.

Maybe not this time, but eventually.

Here's the fundamental point, and it bears for virtually every tech story you read :

Analysts know nothing. They make guesses. Some time their guesses come off, but it's just dumb luck when they do. if they actually did know something, they wouldn't be blabbing it in public, they'd be trying to figure out if they could make money off it before everyone else found out.

+1 I do see the merits of a 5s first. There may be a new bigger iPhone but that could cannibalise iPad mini sales. We might get more of an idea of what is planned from the next version of iOS. I think that better security from a fingerprint scanner might be possible since Apple have bought companies which specialise in this area, but that could take a year or more to fully integrate into the design. While I love listening to the rumours I still think that Apple will surprise us. I thought NFC would be part of the iPhone 5 but when I watched the video of changes to iOS I there was no need for it with Passbook.

"Analyst takes punt on apparently logical next move"
I'll just throw out there that the 6 will have a faster processor and more memory/storage.

And might not be called the 6.

I think my prediction will apply to whatever the 6 is called. Or the 5s. Or the 7.

Yes to processor speeds, but not necessarily the storage boost. Though I would add maybe a better camera?

Well, you'll need the storage space and memory to increase. 4k, y'see.

Also it'll have the Lytro capability built in, that will allow you to select focus after the event, in the camera app.
