Do people really need 128GB? I could understand if games/music/films etc got deleted permanently but given that you can always redownload from itunes, it seems a bit pointless.

I have more than 50 Gb of Apps alone on my iPad. No music and so I can understand why people would want more.

Some people like to keep their entire music collection on their devices, and that could easily exceed 128GB.

My phone has loads of apps and emails and what-nots, but I've only used about 800MB on the built-in storage so far. Media goes on the SD card. My tablet has even less stuff because I mostly just use it for streaming or browsing. Since my tablet never leaves the house, there's just no need to put stuff on it.

I personally tend not to carry a lot of media with me; just a selection of stuff I'm into at the moment. I do quite often fill the 8GB card with just a small selection though. I really like music videos, and just one concert can easily be over 1GB. My entire collection is about 800GB and growing all the time.

I had a little look at a Nexus 7 yesterday. It's small enough to fit in your jeans or jacket pocket and it's very comfortable to hold. If Apple did an iPad mini with 128GB storage for less than £300 I would be very tempted, although I prefer the higher resolution and slim form factor of the Nexus. I just don't understand why neither of them support SD cards. Flash is less than 50p / GB and generally falling, so upgrading in the future is never an issue and you can easily carry a few TB in your wallet if you're touring somewhere with no internets.

I could see the benefit of an iPod with 128GB of storage so they could finaly retire the iPod Classic.
Problem is that they will charge a truly ridiculous amount for anything with 128GB... but will still sell them.

I have an iPod classic with 160 Gb and that is full and still does not have my entire music collection on it. When I bought my iPad 2 I had no idea of how much space I would need. Since mine rarely leaves the house I could get away with a lot less apps but at least I do not have to chop and change my apps.

I think Apple would be on a winner if they sold a more storage orientated iPod of some description preferably with capacities up to 256GB. Sadly, I suspect that they'd try to make it into an epic iPod Touch and charge accordingly. I wonder what the market is these days for a device that primarily about just playing back what's on it rather than playing games and using apps.

I'm not there's a lot of crossover between iPod classic and ipad buyers to be honest with you. The rumour is the remaining iPod classic buyers are mostly audio buffs who want to be able to store a fairly large number of pieces of music in lossless format but still have it in something smallish you can carry around and listen to. Doesn't seem to me like the iPad can fulfil that demographic - You may claim the iPad is portable, in a sense, but it's not as if you can drop it in a pocket when you go out for a jog.

I think a 128GB iPad is pretty much inevitable and now is as good a time as any. It will be expensive but Apple have much of the flash RAM production sewn up on contracts right now - I think if they did start selling a 128GB model the rest may struggle to get their own competitor out simply because there isn't enough flash production to go round once Apple has bought all it would need for that product line. It would be a USP, at least for a while.

Would it sell? Well, I"m sure it would sell some. But I'm not sure the majority would see it as being worth the premium. IMO, it would mostly be a piece of willy-waving that Apple's supplier contracts meant the competition would find hard to match in the short term.

My instinct is if they do it it'll be as much again over the 64GB as the 64GB is over the 16GB. In other words, probably £750 wifi and £850 with 3G. Which is a metric [LIFTED]ton of anybody's money for a tablet.

I think that there is a small market for a larger iPod and it would not cannibalise any iPad or iPhone sales. As you said it will be from audiophiles.

I doubt the prices will match the £ / GB of today's model. Surely it's more likely that they'll simply double the capacity of the existing range, so that 32GB becomes the smallest and prices will be similar.

I can't remember exactly what happened last time, but hasn't there always been a choice of 3 capacities? Apple don't usually give you a huge choice.

I suspect if they do increase the capacity the price of the top model will be at the same level of the top model now.

They've done similar in the past with iPods, certainly. Drop the 16GB and have 32, 64 & 128.

Yup. Three capacities, wifi only or wifi & 3g and latterly black or white.

I didn't realise Cliff Richard had released so much music!

Well, he did start releasing stuff shortly after the big bang (which is ironic given his stated beliefs). :D
