A rather geeky statistic that really made me smile. PNG can be advantageous over GIF in many circumstances, but as a relative newcomer it's great to see it become so widely accepted so quickly! http://w3techs.com/blog/entry/the_png_i ... r_than_gif |

If it's just a logo, I still use gif (when appropriate over jpeg) just to keep ie6 users happy, but if alpha transparency is required, I use png and ie6 can go hang. |

In all honesty, I never intentionally started to use PNG. It was only after downloading pictures from websites did I realise some were in PNG format. It was only in the past year, when I was redesigning our intranet site did I realise the advantages of PNG. The quality/compression ratio won it out over and above the other file formats. |

There are things you can do to make IE6 display PNGs with alpha transparency, but it’s dependent on the host OS to be able to do this. I think Window 95 and Windows NT4 are the culprits here. |

There's a JavaScript that does it too, but unless I'm specifically asked to, I don't bother with ie6 support. |

JavaScript is also an outgoing tech. Though I rarely see gifs, and png is rarer still at the sites that I visit. jpeg is the format that I see most of all. |

There's an HTC file that does a far better job, and you don't see a flicker when the page loads. To be honest, I don't give a toss about IE6 anymore. The app I use for web design does what it can for IE6 compatibility, so it just happens for me. I don't go out of my way to support it. As LNG as things degrade gracefully, I'm OK about it. |

Confusing Java and JavaScript, methinks. Schoolboy error. |

Without JavaScript, you can't use a majority of websites these days. |

Javascript is growing rapidly, along with HTML5. Client side Java may well die, in no small part down to security issues. A fact I personally find annoying, because Java is lovely to program in while I find Javascript quite hideous. ![]() |

If ind JavaScript a pain as it can be so loose. I've learnt quite a bit of php, but I only bother with JavaScript occasionally when I need it for something specific. For example the other day I need it for a form that worked out the price based on the quantity. |

Well one market research website I get directed to says that I need Javascript enabled. It is enabled in my preferences, but does not work. Hence my assumption that it was not installed. Some websites are stretched out because there is no javascript like T3. Though most websites I visit are not impacted at all. |
