After all his claims that he was innocent when it comes to the crunch he now admits his guilt

Should get sent down but I doubt he will.

At the very least he deserves a mahoosive fine, for all the time-wasting. However, IMO, he should get a custodial sentence for attempting to pervert the course of justice.

IIRC that's the only option available in the sentencing guidelines. Be interesting to see if they try to wheedle out of it somehow.

So I heard on the radio, on the way home. Typically three to nine months - In my opinion it should be more, for a public figure who constantly denied any wrongdoing; and only changed his plea when it was clear they couldn't prevent the admission of some evidence that would all but guarantee a guilty verdict.

Oh, I don't think they dare. Besides, I get the impression that Cleggy is more than happy to throw him to the wolves. He probably thinks that distancing himself from Huhne strengthens him.

He'd be wrong. The damage was done the moment the verdict came in and ditching Huhne now doesn't gain him anything at all (or perhaps more accurately only avoids further damage).

Clegg will be glad to ditch him - after all he was seen as a potential rival for leader of Liberal Democrats.

Think - he might have been deputy prime-minister!

Well that might affect his future career so maybe he will get a slap on the wrist.
