From what I can gather, from sources a little less hysterical than the mainstream media right now, the trajectory is wrong for it to be associated with tonight's close pass. It seems it's just a plain old coincidence.

What really surprised me was that the shock wave demolished a number of roofs. The fact that there were so many dash cams in the cars made gave such an insight to the impact we have never seen before.
