Quote:
Cardinal Roger Mahony has been accused of helping priests suspected of sexual abuse to escape detection.

The Los Angeles archdiocese, of which he was formerly the head, has paid out millions of dollars in compensation to victims of child sex abuse.

Make the Cardinals and bishops who aide and abet such actions sign on the sex offenders register and make them as culpable as those actually committing the offence.

+1
They're at the same level as people who download child porn. They didn't physically do anything, but they're just as guily of child sex offences.

An Italian friend of ours said that the news media over there often carry serious accusations about the Vatican and its personnel (especially recently), and from what he gathers there's serious stuff still to come out. I often wonder how these deviant priests justify their actions to themselves. How does sexually abusing the young and the vulnerable help support the Catholic message?

The Catholic Church needs to get its act together particularly in the US and Europe. They need to root out the problematic priest no matter how many of them.

You're always gonna have problematic priests so long as the organisation's corrupt from the top down. Hell (no pun intended), twisted from the top down.

I do not think that they are all that bad but in any organisation there will be a few. Though there are probably a lot now who have risen to the top and at the very least are guilty of covering up something or other.

Totally agree with you.

Only problem is there is no way that the government will enact such a law, when the Deputy Prime Minister could also be on that list for aiding Lord Rennard by allowing him to resign for "health reasons".
