Few download music illegally anyway. The fact that there are plenty of legal alternatives has meant that there is no reason to pirate music. Though if they continue to hamstring legal services like Spotify then they could drive people back to piracy. The same needs to happen with film. The prices asked are simply too high, especially for older films. A thirty year old film does not justify £15 just because it its now on Blu Ray.

There are loads of films on every day on "Freeview". Even though people still complain about the licence fee, it works out at a few pence per film. If you watch a film most days, then about 50p per film that you see. I think 50p is about the right price.

Of course, the only reason they can charge so little is that these films already made most of their money from people willing to pay more.

Don't forget that the BBC and ITV only get films three films after their release, which allows the studios to get most of their money back from DVD sales and premium movie channels. I actually do not mind the wait, if you really want it you get it soon after release. The license fee is great value for money when you consider how much you get for it, even if you do not use it all. I only listen to a couple of radio stations but what else they provide suits many others. Though who only watches just the films. If you allow for the news and other entertainment the cost of films are probably closer to a penny per film, which is not far off the cost of a film from torrenting. :lol:

BT charge almost £1 per GB if you go into over-usage, and the average user does pay around that price if you work it out. A film can be more than 1GB if it's good quality.

It all depends on your connection. If it is capped then yes it could be as expensive as you mentioned. Then add in iTunes fees etc.

The uncapped packages are generally more expensive, and it's only the top few percent of users that really get their money's worth. You are on the web a lot, but what do you download? Maybe 10GB a month if you watch all the videos in the Youtube thread and a lot of pod casts?

I stream my radio via apps on my iPad and iPhone via wifi and Tv via Catchup Tv so use quite a bit. Though if you are thinking about newer film download services like Lovefilm or Netflix they can add up, or Sky Go for Sky customers, you can power though any caps legally.

My usage worked out to 10GB/month. Until family members come home and want to use the internet at which point it rockets upwards. Hence I've gone for an unlimited package to cover this. I've historically always done my downloads at night.
