I don't see why it would unless the providers are actually prepared to offer serious streaming at sensible prices :?

I agree, there are two problems to overcome. First is the price of the 4G tablet over a wifi version. The iPad is £100 more, even the Kindle is £60 more.

Then you have to budget for cost of using it. A standalone contract is excessive for many who do not use it enough to justify a separate contract. The Kindle takes care of this, but is that enough for all users?

The big roll-out here is rural areas, which have slow or no broadband access. The providers have to cover rural areas with mobile broadband. I'm not sure whether they have to put up one rural mast for for each town centre mast or how it is supposed to work, but there is some mandate to provide some mobile broadband ahead of general 4G LTE rollout.

I see it being a slow uptake. I doubt people will pay for a 4G tablet connection if they already have 3G on a mobile contract. They'll wait until that expires first. That could be up to two years.

4G coverage will need to get outside a few major cities on one network. I don't think we'll have anything approaching general 4G coverage in the Uk for another year to 18 months. And then , as you say, people will look at how much the contract costs over their existing 3G and whether they think their current setup feels 'slow'.

I would imagine that most tablet users are primarily wifi so lack of 3G means waiting till the next upgrade and that could be as little as a few months depending on the product cycle. For my next tablet I was not even thinking of getting a 3G or even 4G version, being more than happy with a wifi version.
