The Fog gave me nightmares as a young teen. I think I was 13 when I read it. I'm kind of glad they never filmed it.
Have they filmed any of his books? I can't think of any off the top of my head. Moonstone might make a good film.

I'd always assumed the John Carpenter film was based on the book. I assumed wrongly...

Yep, very different story and nowhere near as scary as the book!

His earlier work just seemed to be blood and gore for the sake of it (The Rats, The Fog, etc) but books after that were better written and a lot more restrained. According to Wikipedia very few of his books have been adapted for the big screen.

I enjoyed the Rats trilogy as a kid, great nightmares. I think there have been two adaptions to film, both crap iirc.
