The only problem is that there are lots of miscarriages of justice there. The death penalty is wrong, especially if they make a mistake. Better to have life imprisonment instead. It does not act as a deterrent as most never consider getting caught.

I'm with amnesia on this one. Without an infallible system of determining guilt it's impossible to rule out the possibility of killing an innocent person and if you're talking about taking a persons life then there can be no margin for error.

But there are mistakes, often quite blatant ones. I'm no big fan of rights for the guilty, but I'm a damned big fan of rights for the not guilty!

That's the point if we had the death penalty when the Birmingham 6 were convicted or the Swansea 3 we would have problems. It is better to lock dozens up for life without parole than allow a single innocent person be executed for something they never did. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk.

I would never rule it out completely simply because of where I live, but we all know how corrupt the system is, so...

If they decide that someone is a pain what is to stop them fitting them up with some capital offence to get rid of them? The only people who should suffer capital punishment are those that think it is a good thing.

We execute people on the quiet all the time, or at least get involved in it. At least capital punishment would have the facade of a trial lol. Look, I'm not advocating it, I'm just saying it would be an option if we could trust the police

Yes 50 people a year are "executed" in police custody every year, yet that is not enough for the death penalty mob. My concerns are with innocent people, or if you happen to be party of the wrong demographic or minority in which ever part of the county you are in. As for trusting the police well we have all seen what they will do for a brown envelope. So unless you have the money to wield that influence then you are likely to be screwed over.

I'm not completely against a death penalty, but the consequences of a mistake don't bear thinking about. They'd have to change "beyond a reasonable doubt" to "without any doubt, whatsoever" and base it purely on irrefutable physical evidence. Even then, I'm still torn. This kind of rubbish doesn't help anyone. How about the rights of someone executed and later found to be a "victim" of a miscarriage of justice? Are you going to bang your fist on the desk with equal passion then?

Regardless of views on whether to have or not to have the death penalty, hanging is cruel. They are more humain ways to execute people.

Actually, if it's done right, hanging should be a quick snap and that's that.

If they want to do it that way. It's a big if.
