Do you think she got off lightly?

Quote:
Former Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding has been banned from driving for six months.

She was pulled over in her Range Rover on 4 April after swerving into the path of a cycling policeman whilst using her phone on Charing Cross Road in central London.

Very lightly. She could have easily killed him.

And the fine could have been as much as £1000. For such dangerous driving she should have been banned for a couple of years considering the fact that she already had 9 points from speeding.

A policeman. lol. Makes you wonder how many other acts of dangerous driving she didn't get caught for.

So you only lose your license if you nearly hit a copper. Think of all the others actually hit by motorists not paying attention.

If somebody gives out so much money on a car, why don't they pay the extra couple of hundred for the official hands-free kit for the car? Heck, many compacts now come with a bluetooth capable radio as standard these days!

I like the judge, telling her she is a normal person and won't get special treatment.

What I find hilarious is that a lot of offenders are people in high priced cars eg BMW. If you can afford such an expensive car, why can't you pay for the optional bluetooth? I retrofitted mine for £300.

Nope. She already had nine points. The standard three points for using a mobile phone got her to the point where she'd lose her license, which is why she was in court.

My car (Hyundai iX35) came with it as standard and it works quite well

I bought a bluetooth box that fits to the sun visor. It cost £20 from an O2 shop.

Facepalm to Sarah Harding

I mentioned the additional 9 points in the previous post. I never knew that it was only 3 points for using a mobile phone. When you consider drinking and driving can get you banned and using a mobile is just as dangerous it does show that mobile use is still treated leniently.

Indeed. Which is why I see people using teen while driving several times a day. It really pisses me off.

I would disagree that driving and using a phone is as dangerous as drinking and driving

Even using a handsfree can increase your risk of an accident. I have a friend who is a good driver and he has handsfree unit in the car but if the conditions are difficult he will end calls as it is hard to concentrate even hands free. Obviously Sarah HArding was using a mobile which is even more dangerous because you either have a hand off the wheel or are driving with your head at an angle that cannot be conducive to safe driving. Also the limits for drink driving could be lower. You certainly do not have all your faculties when on the phone so you cannot be as safe as driving sober.
