It might happen one day, but the thing is that iPad users are the ones that businesses want as they actually spend money and use the Internet more. So even if android becomes the majority of the market, they may make little headway with it. If Samsung do dominate android tablets then that might mean tougher times for other tablet makers.

It's just sad that tech journos insist on fanning the flames. Does any balanced individual really care who has the upper hand?

Why is it iPad versus the rest of the world anyway? Shouldn't it be iPad versus Nexus 7, or the FIre HD versus the Samsung Galaxy?

Absolutely. And if you look around you'll find stories saying almost the opposite, like this one:

The enterprise wars are over. Apple has won.

Quote:
research, by HIS iSupply, shows that the iPad continues to lead the tablet market, despite the growing popularity of Android devices.

Because that doesn't suit 'the narrative'. Journalists like to have a 'good guy' and 'bad guy', regardless of the world being much more complicated.

That headline is just as inflammatory though.

What purpose is served by pitching one tablet line against the collective lines from all manufacturers who use the Android OS, other than vague interest? You can't draw any conclusions about companies' market shares or success until you separate them BY company; which undermines the premise of Apple vs the world.

The Fire HD is probably very good for Amazon Prime customers who use the Amazon movie service. Each tablet will suit it's customers if they thought their needs through.

I wouldn't buy a Kindle Fire as I don't want to be locked into one provider on any one device.
If I wanted a tablet (which I don't), I'd go for a Nexus.

As you may know I have an iPad. I have no problems with being locked into one provider. It also means that they can protect users far more. Look at the problems with spyware on Android devices. Each has their strengths and weaknesses. That also includes the Kindle Fire as they are at least backed by Amazon.

iPads aren't as bad as Kindle Fire's in that respect.

True but of the other Android devices which manufacturers will still be supplying them in five years time? Look at the net book market. It is down more than 90% since 2010, so that same shift could happen to most tablet makers.

Netbooks have been replaced by tablets, for many people. A 10" tablet or hybrid makes more sense than a 10" netbook, plus tablets are cool, in a way that netbooks never were, they were a cheap throw-in-the-backpack computing device that people didn't mind too much, if it got scratched or damaged.

I wonder what means for the HP Envy, which is both a tablet and netbook?

Apparently elsewhere I read that iPad still make up nearly 82% of all web traffic of tablets. So while numbers wise the Android may be close to being the majority tablet people are simply not using them fully.

But Windows tablets aren't identified differently to Windows desktops in the metrics, unlike Macs and iPads...
