Cod fraud is a TV show waiting to happen... I promise comedy accents :D

It is not a health issue but a fraud issue. Personally I do not mind alternative fish, though I would resent being charged cod prices for a cheaper fish. As long as I get what I pay for. The whole food industry is probably rife with similar fraud problems.

That's a very old story, I remember seeing it on a TV programme a couple of years ago. Asian white fish being passed off as cod. Given the issues with cod and the fact that in a fish shop generally people say cod and just really mean white fish, I'm not too bothered by it. The problem is, people ask for cod when they don't really need or want cod. Doesn't make it right though as it is fraud and the people perpetrating it aren't doing it for altruistic reasons.

Agreed. I really do not mind white fish fingers as opposed to cod fish fingers. I would actually prefer non endangered fish rather than commercially vulnerable cod. Last month I ordered a white fish from Tesco, that I cannot remember or pronounce. It was lovely and I will be ordering some more next time. Though are the rest of the public as open to new species?

I prefer being told what I'm being sold but don't mind non-cod white fish eg pollock. Again, it's all about being misled. IIRC Birds Eye do fish fingers and state whether it's cod or alaskan pollack in their products.

I must confess I never noticed that on Birds Eye. Though for them it will end any risk of backlash as they have named the different species. If companies were more honest and just said white fish rather than cod it would not have blown up as a scandal.
