Only in the sense that there's millions of mobile device owners and every so often an individual will buy a game. And that this won't last forever and is totally hampered by the controls. And that the reason the console handhelds are failing is a lack of games and the hardware price. Or that...

You'd need to be insane to think the arse isn't gonna fall out of the mobile gaming market.

I think that mobile might do well for many. Smart phones can cost more than a console, but are very flexible as devices. There is reduced necessity for another console. I have a couple of older consoles and still have the games for them. No need to buy a new console if I want to play a game for a few hours. I never bought a PS3 because I wait until there are at least half a dozen games that I would want to play. Still not found enough games that appeal to me. I play on my iMacs more than on my consoles. Mainly because the genres of games that I prefer are available. For simple games the phone is great. It is portable and you do not need to have another device and the games are cheap. I do not see the Vita or dedicated portable gaming consoles to be dominant by then.

A lot of portables (and phones) have BT for cordless controllers and connections for a big screen, so for casual gaming you've social gaming nights sorted too. Plus being portable you can use them at anyone's house.

2016 is not that far off though. I would expect the Xbox to still be ruling for hard-core console gamers.

Yes I cannot see much else replacing the Xbox in the next few years.

Depends on price and 2nd hand hands restrictions. Many may stick with the original.

Yes but the debates about always on connectivity might put many off, as well as the potential to block pre owned games. It is the restrictions that bother me more than the price. Eventually it will come down to a price that I am happy with, though if the restrictions apply then that price would have to be a lot lower for many to offset the restrictions on preowned games.

I still think they're being silly restricting second hand games. People won't pay as much for them in the first place if they know they can't sell them on.

People will still buy them but will make a huge song and dance about not buying it until they capitulate because they want to play the next COD: special ops paperthin plot or battlefield 3000: you can pilot ducks in this version!!!

I think that if second hand games are blocked then people might wait till the games have dropped to the price that they were willing to pay second hand. I am happy to pay full price for a game that has some longevity for me. So that really limits it to Civ, Starcraft and Halo. Everything else I will wait till it is under a tenner. Everyone will have their own level for each game. Only the best blockbusters will be able to get decent prices, everyone else might find that they only get a few sales.
