Visual effects master Ray Harryhausen, whose stop-motion wizardry graced such films as Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans, has died aged 92.

The American made his models by hand and painstakingly shot them frame by frame to create some of the best-known animated sequences in cinema.

So it's that where the restaurant name came from in Monsters Inc?

I knew he was getting on a bit but it's still a bit of a surprise. Some of my earliest film-going memories are being taken to the cinema to see his movies because my Mum liked them and so did I. Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, Golden Voyage....they don't make 'em like that any more. R.I.P. Ray.

I met him some years ago at a NFT event, where they showed one of his films and he did a Q&A afterwards. My question was "You have destroyed a number of cities in your films which was your favourite city to destroy?" His answer was Washington in Earth vs the Flying Saucers. He did like the question. My cousin met him a number of times and Harry remembered him from the previous events. Sorry that he is gone.
