I am surprised that the iPad has magnets in. Though I would imagine because of the glass front it does need some assistance to hold the covers in place. Just tried a paperclip and that stuck to the screen. So they must be there.

iPads have magnets in two places as far as I can discern. One down the left hand side (if you ave the home button at the bottom). That's where the spine of the smart covers clip on. The others are down the right hand side, and they hold the cover shut (and reposed to a sensor that switched the iPad on or off).

The magnets on the spine seem very powerful. Smart covers climb with a satisfying click and it takes a bit of a pull to get them off.

However, you must note that alive from the pacemaker's manufacturer. Any magnets can cause problems. Just be careful with that iPad if you have such an implant.

I suspect that the real problem is with pacemakers that do not have any safety features to reset them back to normal when magnets are removed.
