Under the pilot programme, a small number of content makers will offer the channels for subscriptions starting at $0.99 (£0.64) a month.

Each channel will offer a free 14-day trial and many will have discounted annual rates.

Actually it could change peoples watching habits completely. If you want to watch a single series on a premium channel without having to pay for the rest of the bundle of channels it could make sense. So you could watch Game of Thrones without the ads during the show and without having to subscribe to an TV package. It could be great for old shows, like Firefly.

I very much doubt if GoT will be released this way.

Not for a long time. It could be good for some older series. Though it might be good for small independent producers.

I'd expect the subscription model to fit the kind of series that is on regularly, rather than relatively short season high budget dramas.

As you say, it could be a good distribution model for indie producers. I might have paid 99c for "Watch the Guild" for example. However, they get a lot through advertising already. Some Youtube channels have made millions just through advertising, and any kind of pay-wall would slash that revenue. Even if it was dirt cheap.

Yes but there are other uses, like sports. Which people pay for now anyway. If they could show football matches with different prices depending on how now the match was. So a live match might be £10 dropping a £1 a day till day 9, then being £1 from then on. So if you cannot afford live matches you could watch it 9 days later for £1, though you would need to avoid all the news and newspapers for a week to watch without spoilers. Countdown would fit the model you describe.
