Mr Schittny said that the work showed promise for applications where heat needed to be carefully shuttled around - electronics systems, cooling or energy systems, and so on. And the prototype works just as the 2012 work predicted it would.

"We were all surprised by how well the theoretical simulations and the experimental results in the end agreed," he said.

The cool bit is that they predicted how it should work. It could make for even better infrared sensors in satellites which have to be careful about the heat from electrical components in space.

I haven't tried it yet, but at work we have a trial unit of Sharkskin Covert. It's basically your own personal faraday cage that masks the bodies electrical signal. It allows you to get closer to subjects and prey when diving.
