It is not helped when their school books seriously gloss over many of the aspects of their occupation of Korea, and the biological weapons unit of the military who conducted biological weapons tests on Prisoners of war. When you only see a small part of the story you can understand why they think a dictatorship might be a good thing.

In many conflict such as Balkans and Africa, rape is seen as a tactic as any others, such as pillaging. It is really because many cultures believe that women are "belongings" of the men, not persons in their own right.
There is a very famous photo of Bosnian women crying after discussing being raped by soldiers but I can't find it just now. It is part of a reporter sans frontieres 20th century photoset.

They weren't necessary. Food, water and shelter are necessary. Prostitutes and raping aren't.

I really don't think it's about sex.
It's about power and submission of losing side.

+1. Perhaps it goes with the mentality of violence? Doesn't need to be though.

Isn't he the guy who was going to buy the Senkaku islands from their private owners, which forced the government to buy them up first, prompting a dirty and pointless international conflict with China?

As I recall their fear was that he would do something truly stupid like building houses on them, and start a real war in the process.
