Is it possible to protect a card against this kind of activity eg a pocketable faraday cage type wallet? |

I'm glad I don't have any contactless cards. I don't like the idea of electronic cash transfers without any security. |

Yes, Pacsafe have an RFID blocking wallet. Not the prettiest of things though. |

The problem is that you might still be sent a contact less card when it is next renewed even if you did not order one. You still need to be careful. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk. |

My new card (Smile, incidentally) has an RFID chip, I didn't specify I wanted one. Mind you, I didn't specify I wanted a card without one either. So a solution to a problem nobody had is now causing a problem itself. Well done everyone! |

Because of my memory all my cards are chip and signature, but do not come with a PIN. So at least I do not have to worry about getting a pin transaction at the same. Though what can they realistically do to stop this from happening to others elsewhere? Reducing the power of the sensor might help and asking people whether they want a contact less card at all. From what I can tell from the couple of Visa employees I follow on Twitter, the system should ask which card is to be used before taking payment if it detects more than one. I guess this is down to implementation at the terminal, and user behaviour not being accounted for at the software/hardware level. My new business debit card is contactless. It never leaves the house, so it’s not a concern. My next bank debit cards no doubt will be. I’ll have to be more careful with how I handle my wallet when paying for something. I miss having to write a cheque. It set up a “do you really need this” barrier in my mind. I guess I saved more money in those days than I do now. |

When the people who developed contact less payment their normal behaviour was already modified through previous trials. When it gets into the real world then the real problems are found. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk. |

If my bank do that, I'll be asking them to disable any transactions at their end. |

Only if you know about it. My cousin only found out at the checkout that his card was contact less. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

But surely he could then say to the bank 'block any contactless transactions in the future, I want to use chip and pin only. ' |

Actually I do not think he minds so much. He has not made any additional comments since that first time. |
