Be interesting to see how the press report the outcomes.

The fact that this a now being seen as a huge problem shows that either the police and social services were asleep when this was happening. The fact that so many of these girls were in care homes means we really should be looking at the whole care system as well.

It certainly won't be helped by the policy of the police leaving it up to the care homes until someone's been gone 'too long'. I'm under no illusions about how common running away is, but it's obvious what'll happen sooner or later.

Not just that but the kids have huge problems inside care, and when they leave care. It is a long standing problem, no one really wants to deal with. Social services are overly protective in stripping kids away from families and dump them in homes where they are left without adequate support. There is inadequate provision for dealing with their issues in care and so they leave as damaged adults and no wonder so many end up in the gaol system.
