For those who have read the Viz profanisaurus, there's some amusement to be had in the fact the Russian forces replaced the S-300 'Grumble' with the S-400 'Growler'.

It's obvious that the 'foreign intervention' these systems are meant to deter is the type of intervention that happened in Libya, where NATO/ Arab League air power was used as a force multiplier for the anti-regime faction.

Not that I think the UK at least could intervene in that way anyway as it happens, we managed to pretty much deplete our arsenal of air to surface smart weaponry and I doubt we're back up to stock yet. Plus Libya was at roughly the edge of operation range for the Typhoon (since we decided to get rid of our aircraft carriers and sell all our STOL jets to the Americans :| ) and Syria is quite a lot further from Europe than Libya is.

They might still sell off both carriers, if they carry on this level of incompetence.

We all know what'll happen if the west does arm Syria
1) Dictator/government will be over thrown.
2) Political chaos
3) Muslim extremists take over
4) Muslim extremists use the weapons we provided against us.

It has a familiar ring to it. Afghanistan being the most recent example.

There are no clues as to how this will end but it will probably get messy.

I think you'll find it's already pretty messy.

I am not disputing that but if NATO jets get shot down by the Syrians it could get messy internationally as well.
