http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/ ... in_laptops I can't help thinking that requires a set of conditions, but improvements are always welcome ![]() |

How long before apps swallow up that advantage? I do think that longer battery life between recharging is always good. It might help if certain chips are more efficient, such as 3G chips, I have noticed the additional heat when my iPhone is tethered. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk. |

50% increase, but that's just from the CPU. You'd need a 50% increase from every component to get a 50% increase overall. Screens etc are the big power users. If they have the same efficiency, then the overall battery life won't increase that much. |

When I leave my computers running but the screens off the power usage drops dramatically. I was away for a few days and when I got back I measured the power usage and it had more than halved, purely because of the computer screens. One computer was on throughout my trip yet the power consumption was significantly lower. |

Yep, looking at my Android phone, the screen accounts for around 75% of battery usage. |

With my Desire HD the screen is often as much as 90% |

How did you two measure that? On topic: Intel have to claim something - with AMD consistently fluffing their lines, Intel have no need to push and are content to phone it in; offering 10% bumps in performance with improvements in power efficiency, and gouging every last penny. |

Using the built-in power management tool, it show which processes / devices use how much energy. |

Android on my old Desire is to include screen usage on the power menu. But my new phone call it 'app usage' and doesn't list how much power the screen uses. |

Have you looked at battery under device manager? Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2 |

On my Nexus it's under settings, battery. Presently 75%. I've never been able to find it on my HCT but it pops up when the battery is low... So I see it often! |

Useful feature - I suppose you can choose a sweet spot between brightness and battery life. |

Device manager? On my new Android phone I go to settings, power, usage: That lists app usage and other usage. But the only thing showing under other usage is 'phone idle' I can only assume screen power comes under Android OS usage. Though I do like the charts under settings, power, history. |

My iPhone screen must use most of its power, though it is in a dock most of the time as I use one clock app as a screen when I sleep. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk. |
