If that was me, I'd quite possibly choose that option.

Dementia is the gradual loss of brain function leading to loss of memory and the inability for patients to understand what is happening around them. It affects 800,000 people in the UK.

As an amnesiac I am halfway there, but fortunately dementia is very rare in amnesiacs. Though if I were that doo lally then I would probably not care. My grandmother feared going senile like her neighbours.

Given that it's murder to take another human life, you would have to change both the definition and the law. Pain can be managed. The mental deterioration cannot.

I agree but the politicians are slow to grasp that concept. I am still a long way from being in that situation no matter what some of you think to the contrary. ;) I would still support the idea of assisted suicide or euthanasia if safeguards could be included. That will protect the doctors and the patients.

Mine did go senile. It started with short term memory loss, progressed to her not recognising family members and ended with her not recognising anything, anyone or even being able to speak.
It was truly pitiful.

Well I already have short term memory loss and fail to recognise my family out of context, but am a long way from deteriorating to the extent of your grandmother. Though my grandmother would have opted for assisted suicide if she felt that was her outcome. The law is playing catch up with the daily reality for many.
