Well if the jet had been hijacked then the fighter pilots response was justified it would probably have been authorised prior anyway. Good news that there was nothing to respond to in the end.

This sonic boom was heard in St. Ives and Essex? That's about 360 miles away.

I used to live about 10 kilometre from the local Tornado squadron in Bavaria. They would do supersonic flights every month or so. It is loud but not window breaking loud...

Glad to hear it was a false alarm.
