England's NHS regulator is to review a decision not to name those behind a possible "cover-up" after a series of baby deaths at a Cumbria hospital.

And they have revealed the names.

Understandable, but leave it to the lawyers. With a bit of luck they will be banned from any public service jobs for life. Though a couple still need to be sacked from the CQC. Until they are gone the rebuilding of the CQC will be in vain. |

If I remember rightly, it was the CQC that did the cover up. They are the "regulators" of the NHS.
Of the two names I'm aware of, one was involved with Stafford Hospital at the time of the scandal occurring, and the other is involved in ensuring whistleblowers are safe. What's the point in whistleblowing if nothing happens except cover ups? |

I was more suggesting what's going to happen anyway. You can bet that the second the names were revealed, tabloid journalists were digging through their bins, both literally and figuratively. |

The fact that that the CQC failed so badly meant that the problems else where in hospital trusts were much slower to be addressed. As you say the problem is in the CQC. Until they are reformed and brought up to a standard that the public expect problems in trusts will simply ignored. |

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-23021098 That sort of thing is why I never totally dismiss conspiracies - you'll cover each other's backs if just one of you can bring down the whole show. You don't have to like each other. Equally, given a way out you might bring the whole show down to be done with it. |

I do not think that this was an intentional conspiracy. It sort of developed. Those involved realised that their careers would disappear down the drain if this was to become exposed. It is more of a mutual coverup rather than a grand conspiracy. |

No no, I'm not saying it is, I'm just saying this sort of thing is how they get going. |

Whatever it is, it's still wrong. The thing that worries me is that this regulator has the power to shut down GP surgeries it they're not up to scratch and making so much bureacracy that we're having to see fewer patients just so we can cope. As an example, we have to have a "dog poo protocol" - ie something that states what happens if there's dog poo about. Apparently "just clean it up" isn't enough of a protocol. We have to get rid of our comfy chairs for patients as they're not "wipe clean-able" so we're going to have to switch to hard plastic chairs. All this from the genius minds that were involved in that cover up. |

For the next year or so there should be a concentration on getting the CQC fixed. That would allow GP's and others fix things before the CQC gets back to inspections. Once the CQC inspectors have been reassigned and re trained then as soon as they are ready they should start random inspections without warning. It is much harder to hide things under the carpet that way. The cosy arrangement of planning inspections would allow them to move the problems out of sight. |

I do think that the press will do that whatever. This is an appalling scandal. The fact that people can stay in their job and avoid any comeback is appalling. Though I have seen that the one person who refused to delete this report is still there and she should be commended for that, rather than be pilloried. Three of them should be facing criminal actions if possible and civil actions for damages from the victims of those who suffered as a consequence of their cover up. |
