Consumers are becoming more willing to pay for online news, although most still choose not to, a study suggests.

Subscriptions of any kind require new members all the time though, and just look at the churn with the TV providers... |

I think that they need to keep the subscribers, and renewals would be good. The whole online magazine apps with subscriptions model is very new and I do not know if there has been any subscription that is in its second or third year. It will be interesting to see what percentage continue their subscriptions. I do read a couple of newspapers daily with my iPad, but they are free and I get to see the ads, which for advertisers means that they get loads of extra eyes on their ads. It is like the Evening Standard. They became a free sheet and are doing well. Now they have an app as well so the delivery of news is even cheaper and they boost the eyeballs on the ads, plus no ad blockers. So paying is not the only model. |
