Samsung pays Apple $1 Billion sending 30 trucks full of 5 cent coins

On one level, it's utterly childish and unprofessional. On another level, it's utterly brilliant

And in the UK, it would be illegal. They passed a law decades ago, which states the maximum amount you can pay in different coins.

COINS:

Coins are legal tender throughout the United Kingdom for the following amount:

£5 (Crown) - for any amount

£2 - for any amount

£1 - for any amount

50p - for any amount not exceeding £10

25p (Crown) - for any amount not exceeding £10

20p - for any amount not exceeding £10

10p - for any amount not exceeding £5

5p - for any amount not exceeding £5

2p - for any amount not exceeding 20p

1p - for any amount not exceeding 20p

It would have been genius if it were true.

Sounds like the plot to Die Hard 3. Loads of trucks moving money on the streets.

Yes but they could pay in £1 coins

at 9.5g / coins and assuming its 100 million as a billion (well they are Americans) its still 950 Tons (metric) of coins so that must be a fair number of trucks

Makes that 950 000 kg which converts to 2 091 391 lbs (US) and since the max load of a US Semi truck is around 50 000 lbs (US) means 42 trucks which is do able.

Stick another naught on those figures. An American billion is a short billion, but it's not that short. It's a thousand million, or a milliard as a very tiny number of people rightly call it.

American, or rather "short scale" billion, which the UK also now seems to use, is 1000 Million, also called a Milliard. A normal, or Long Scale Billion is a Million Million.

There aren't enough coins for this anyway.

I think that there are many coins lost in sofas, still not enough though as you say.
