Hardly surprising the met did the same when they topped the Brazilian in the tube. There was a lot of smear about that victim then. The police communications officers should be charged to stop this sort of disinformation.

Did they bug the family of Millie Dowler? The fact that they did not proves that they were a racist organisation. The judge or constable who authorised this should be stripped on their pension.

While you are right on both counts why bug the victims family and friends in one case and not another?

Because the people investigating Stephen Lawrence's murder were dicks, while the people investigating Millie Dowler's weren't?

I will grant you that, but they were also racists.

how can you make that sweeping generalisation about two differing groups. Do you have any evidence both sets of police officers were rascits?

While I understand the need to investigate the family (statistics say family members are often involved), I see no need to smear them. It should have been obvious quite quickly that they weren't involved.

Official stats mean that you are far more likely to be murdered by someone who knows you than by complete strangers. So yes this would be sensible to check, even Stephen Lawrence's friend would be reasonable to investigate, but to smear them goes far beyond what is reasonable.
