They better hope they win the appeal or the thirty or so states that will press for damages are going to make a largish hole in the bank balance.

Yes but does anyone think that they would have destroyed Amazon by offering the same content at higher prices? While Apple would get their commission the publishers would have been the real winners. The benefits for Apple are that it gives iPad users another reason to buy an iPad.
