Being frank, I loved Knight Rider and one of my favourite bits was KITT driving itself. This kinda ruins the fantasy for me a little. Also have concerns over unexpected events - if I have to do something suddenly, I already have my hands on the wheel and feet on the gas and covering the brake pedal. If the car was going to do something stupid, I'd have to be paying attention, quickly get into position and take the appropriate action. |

It could mean that being banned might not be such a punishment. They could simply set the destination in the computer and sit in the passenger seat. It might open up the prospects of kids being allowed have their own car. |

You would still need to be in control of it (to be able to override it) hence you would need a valid driving license. I suspect it will be like cruise control or something. If I use the brake or clutch whilst the cruise control is active, it turns off. |

Though how long before that is no longer a requirement? |

Can't come too soon IMO. Travelling by car is the biggest waste of time if you can do something productive at the same time. |

I know what you mean, but I'd rather be driving than be driven. |

Isn't that a bit like saying 'well, we've got a drum machine, who needs drummers?' Driving can be a joy, on the right road, at the right time, in the right car, and you needn't be doing anything illegal in it. |

Not sure I'd want to sign off the testing of the software that runs this ![]() |

If a driverless car crashes into you, whose insurance do you claim on? |

The owner or the "nominated driver" - I suspect that it will be a while before all cars are truly driverless but as in I, Robot - you can take control as the driver. |

Yes that would be unlikely as they will have crash avoidance built in as a prime objective. So even if you were a reckless pedestrian it might night you but it will probably have cameras recording the incident so the odds of you actually winning would be minimal. If it were a software failure then you could claim against the car manufacturer. |

But 99% of the time it's tedious and your most likely crawling along with slow moving traffic. The majority of driving is done to get from A to B in the shortest possible time. If you are driver you can't do anything else and therefore it is time wasted IMO. |

Surely the best option is to develop systems that mean you don't have to travel from A to B in the first place. How you do it is less of an issue than you having to do it at all. Most journeys aren't actually necessary, as such. |
