The way that reads, it seems if you were there you were likely to get convicted; rightly or wrongly :oops:

Guimaraes later appealed the sentence and was freed. He was found shot dead in his Sao Paulo apartment in 2006.

Maybe being released was not what he expected. It would be highly likely that he would have been killed by someone connected with the massacre. They decided to execute him instead.
